4Good, but not perfect
By C. Comes
I am currently in the process of walking 9000 miles in a giant loop around the US. The solar charger helps me charge up my cell phone, and occasionally my laptop when I am in desolate areas. It is a good addition to my pack, but it is far from perfect, so I will review in detail. I would have preferred to give 3.5 stars, but I rounded it up.

I just finished walking through the Mojave Desert in an extremely desolate area, and I was out there alone for 3 weeks. The solar battery kept my phone humming, and that was extremely important.

When the solar battery is fully charged it generally give me 2-3 full recharges on my cell phone. The cell phone gets a lot of use in the evening though so I use up the additional battery overnight. On a few occasions the solar battery ran out in the morning, and I had to charge my phone while I was walking in the sun. This often left me with a battery that was not fully charged by the evening, and I had to cut back on my use for that day.

I was walking in the desert and almost all days had full sun and I had the solar panels on my pack for the day. Most of the time the battery was charged to 3/4's in the evening - so not a full charge. This was after around 9 hours walking in the sun. The thing is, the sun was of course not always directly on the pack. Usually the sun rays came in from the side, and that gave me a lot less charge. On days off when I made sure the solar panels was turned directly to the sun I got close to a full charge by the end of the day. On a cloudy day I had to cut way back on cell phone use and even potentially turn it off in the middle of the day.

I would have struggled if I had to also charge up my laptop on the amount of energy I got from this battery. Still, I would have been in trouble keeping my phone charged without the solar panels.
