First the good things - Product looks nice, the blue LCD is cool.

I haven't done any controlled testing, but I don't think this one is 12000 mAh. The other reviewer said that it has 4 batteries of 2600 mAh each, so a total of 10,400 mAh. That number seems closer to reality.

The charger is very slow to charge. I charge my Sony Xperia when it comes below 30%, and the wall charger with 1A output charges it in 2 hours. But this battery pack takes almost 3 hours to do the same.

It has NO FLOW-THRU charging, meaning it cannot charge other devices while it itself is charging. This is a big flaw for me. One of the other reviewers posted that it has flow-thru charging as along as the charge is not near zero. A load of hum-bug I tried at different charge levels, even 99% - it won't start charging the connected device until it is fully charged.

It is picky about what is charges. It charges Sony Xperia phone, LG Phone and MP3 player. It will not charge a Nook HD and a BlackBerry. I don't have any apple devices, but I think it will have trouble charging any device that is picky about its power source.

DO NOT BELIEVE the glowing positive reviews. They are from professional reviewers who got the product free in return for posting positive reviews.

Lastly - there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO PHONE NUMBER, NO WEBSITE... NOTHING. Just an gmail address. Thankfully Amazon will take it back, but I am leaving on a month long international trip this week and I have to deal with this issue at the last minute.

Save yourself the trouble and go with a proven brand like Anker or NewTrent that have a decent website and a responsive customer service.

It is a powerful battery pack rated at 12000 mAh of capacity and capable of charging two devices simultaneously. I put together a video of the unit and the test results for your review.

The blue exterior shell is aluminum that looks fantastic. The battery weighs in at 9 3/4 ounces. The battery pack has two USB output ports that output 5 VDC at 1 Amp and the second one outputs 5 VDC at 2.1 Amps. This is ideal to allow you to charge two devices at the same time and one of them can be a tablet that requires 2.1 Amps to charge quickly.

During the testing the temperature of the battery pack never even exceeded ambient room temperature. To start your device charging you connect it with the proper cable and press the battery pack power button and charging starts. The charging will stop automatically when your device is fully charged or the battery pack is depleted.

This battery pack also features a LED flashlight. This is ideal for when you travel to have an emergency light in a hotel room, when looking for your keys or when in a dark movie theater.

This product is good and I rate it at 5 stars. If you are a business person or a student and have to depend on your tablet or smart phone for long periods of time without the ability to get to an AC power source then this is a good battery to own. This is good for those who travel a lot or camp out. Now you can watch your movies or listen to your music on those long airline flights.

You should note that I did not operate my tablets while I charged it. When I test a battery I do an extensive set of tests that fully charges the battery and then I use it to charge devices and make sure that it is fully depleted when my tests are done. I time each test and document the results as the test progresses. I then calculate the mAh of capacity that the battery supplied and I then calculate its charging efficiency. This process takes from 3 hours to, in very large batteries, about a day for testing. I don't take any short cuts or guess and every battery has these tests performed on it and documented. This is to assure that the battery is tested and it performs well. If a battery has performed poorly I then run the tests again to verify the results.

EC Technology 12000 mAh External Battery Pack Features:
* Powerful 12000 mAh capacity
* The unit is compact and weighs in at 9 3/4 ounces.
* Attractive design with nice blue metal enclosure and it is available in Deepskyblue, Dimgray, Fuchsia and Gold.
* It has a beautiful blue backlit LED status display located on the front that indicates the battery charge level. It reads out in percent and also has a graphic battery ICON with a bar graph built in to show the battery's level of remaining charge. The display percentage reading is nonlinear and it is probably reading the output voltage and not the current capacity.
* When pressing the power button or charging a device the display will show the amount of power still stored in the battery pack. It will also indicate whether the LED flashlight is on, what port is being used and what voltage and current is being drawn out of the battery as it knows which port you are using.
* There are two USB power output ports and they are USB 1 rated at 5VDC at 1 Amp, USB 2 rated at 5VDC at 2.1 Amp for iPads and tablets.
* The battery pack can output 3.1 Amps max at one time so it can charge two devices simultaneously.
* Press the ON button when you plug in a device and that begins the charging process of your device. There is an automatic OFF when your electronic device is charged.
* The battery pack uses Lithium-Ion battery technology and premium Samsung battery cells
* The battery pack can be recharged 500+ times
* Warranty is 12 months
* The battery pack does not come with an AC wall charger.
* Charging it with a USB 2.0 port on your laptop or computer is not recommended by me as the battery would take too long to fully charge. (Approximately 27.5+ hours with a 500 mAh USB 2.0 Port.)
* It will take 14 to 16 hours to charge the battery pack with a 5 VDC USB rated at 1 Amp. I recommend using a 2.1 Amp USB power source.
* The unit has a LED flashlight that can be turned on by quickly double pressing the power switch. You turn it off by double pressing the power switch again. The flashlight on time is not known as it is omitted from the manual.

Charging my devices:
I charged the battery pack fully before I started my test. I started with an iPhone 4 charged at 72% and the EC Technology was fully charged at 100%.
* 30 min 94% and the battery pack was at 97%
* 50 min 100% and the battery pack was at 97%
I started with an iPad 2 charged at 6% and the EC Technology was charged at 97%.
* 30 min 21% and the battery pack was at 79%
* 60 min 36% and the battery pack was at 66%
* 90 min 50% and the battery pack was at 49%
* 120 min 64% and the battery pack was at 42%
* 150 min 77% and the battery pack was at 40%
* 180 min 85% and the battery pack was at 39%
* Continued charging overnight and the next morning the iPad 2 was at 100% and the battery pack was at 39%
I started charging a second iPhone 4 that was at 68% and the battery pack was at 39%
* 30 min 88% and the battery pack was at 30%
* 60 min 97% and the battery pack was at 27%
* 90 min 100% and the battery pack was at 25%
I started charging an iPad 3 that was at 83%and the battery pack was at 25%
* 30 min 88% and the battery pack was dead

Summary of charging tests:

* Charge 28% of an iPhone 4= 1420 mAh x 28%= 397.6 mAh
* Charge iPad 2 94% x 6944 mAh = 6527.36 mAh
* Charge 32% of an iPhone 4= 1420 mAh x 32%= 454.4 mAh
* Charge iPad 3 a total of 5% x 11560 mAh = 578 mAh

* Total power out is 397.6 + 6527.36 + 454.4 + 578 = 7957.36 mAh/12000 mAh = 66.3% efficiency

* This is a slightly below average result and I will retest the unit.

I reran the test and was able to draw out of the battery 8082 mAh which is 67.35% efficiency. The result was not that much different.

* iPad 2 battery 6,944 mAh battery capacity
* iPad 3 battery 11,560 mAh battery capacity
* Kindle Fire battery 4400 mAh capacity
* Kindle Keyboard battery 1750 mAh capacity
* iPhone 5 is 3.8 VDC at 5.45 Wh = 1434 mAh battery
* iPad 4 battery is 11,486 mAh 3.7 VDC at 42.5 Wh
* iPad Mini battery is 4490 mAh at 3.72 VDC 16.7 Wh

When using an external battery you have to allow approximately 30 % of the battery capacity will be lost to heat, voltage conversion, powering the batteries electronics and the electronics of your electronics device's charging circuits. In addition you have to consider that your device is not truly off like a cell phone is still connected to the WIFI and phone networks and probably receiving emails, etc.

Real world examples of charging capability with this battery pack:

* iPhone 4 or 5 approximately 5.6 full charges out of a fully charged EC Technology 12000 mAh battery pack
* iPad 2 approximately 115% of a full charge
* iPad 3 or 4 approximately 69% of a full charge
* iPad Mini approximately 177% of a full charge
* Kindle Fire approximately 181% of a full charge

* A normal estimated usable storage is 70% of capacity or .70 * 12000 mAh = 8400 mAh charging capacity available for your electronic devices.

* In my testing I was able to use approximately 7957.36 mAh of capacity or roughly 66.3% of the 12000 mAh capacity.

This version of EC Tech 12,000mAh is my absolute favorite - which is saying a lot since I have evaluated about 20 external batteries over the last 6 months. This external battery pack is larger than some of the others on the market, but it packs significant storage capacity making it perfect for long international flights or anytime you need extra battery life for a tablet. In my opinion 12,000mAh is perfect for charging tablets - since they will have the capacity to fully charge an iPad 4.

Notes-

- 12,000mAh power bank has enough storage capacity to fully charge an iPhone fully four to five times - it will also provide about a 150% charge to an iPad 2 and a full charge to an iPad 4

- Has one 5V 1A output and a 5V 2.1 A outputs for tablets - for a total output of 3.1A and 15 watts

- Has an LED light built in - when external battery is fully charged the light will shine for 340 hours

- Come with a variety of variety of charging tips including a 30 pin Apple adapter (but not the newer Apple Lightning Adapter) - a micro USB, a mini USB, and a PSP

- It is about the same size as a 1Tb external hard drive.

- Has a very cool LCD screen that indicates (as a percentage) the amount of power that remains. That part is cool, but it also shows when either of the 2 USB outputs are in use.

- A very cool look with the anodized aluminum case - it is the best looking external battery that I have evaluated

- It does not come with a carrying case

Final Verdict - So why is this particular external battery pack my favorite? The EC Tech 12,000mAh is packs enough power to fully charge an iPhone and iPad (and then some) at a very reasonable price. However, the combination of the cool look and the functionality of the LCD really does separate this external battery from the rest. Recommended.

This makes it perfect for international business fliers (so that they can operate their tablets). It is also very handy in the case of an extended power outage. 13,000mAh will fully charge bluetooth speakers, portable lights, smartphones, tablets, and even some small humidifiers!

Notes-

- 13,000mAh of storage will allow you to charge an Iphone 5-6 times, will provide 150% charge to an iPad 2 - and fully charge an iPad 4.

- If completely drained it will take take 18.5 hours to fully charge from a low output/standard USB or it will take 9.5 hours from a 5V 1A adapter.

- Have one 5V 1A output which is ideal for smartphones and a 5V 2A output for tablets

- Has a variety of tips - 30 pin Apple, micro USB, PSP (but not PSP Vista), and a mini USB

- Slightly larger than a standard iPhone 4S - maybe 10-20% larger and heavier

5This vs the Anker Astro

This external battery reminds me of the Anker Astro External Battery and they both have the same features.. Such as the safety feature of overcharging, dual USB, 1 with 2AMPs for Tablets, the other with 1Amp for other devices such as an iPhone, Android, and more. I forgot to mention about the "Click to charge" and Flashlight feature.. they both have it. I was afraid to purchase this device because not many people reviewed it. I have to say it's a great buy and it cost $15 less than the Anker Astro 13000mAh with the same features! Charged my iPod Touch 4th Gen + iPhone 4 with 3lights! [Started with 3 lights] This is an incredible device..

This device is quite heavy to put inside your pocket as well. If you don't mind bulk in your pocket or a bit of weight.. then you'll be just fine. If you got a laptop case or any type of bag to hold this, then you'll be fine! I will be bringing this to my college. Also, If I ever encounter a power outage like last year (Lost power for a whole week) this battery will keep me set for it!

Last thing before I wrap this up, I have an iPhone 4 with the Ballistic Hard Core Case with the optional silicone on it.. this device is actually slightly thicker than it if you wondering.

5Huge capacity. Great value.

At 13,000 mAh, the EcTech YN-019 is one of my biggest capacity power banks I have seen. At the time of this review, it is being sold for under thirty which is a tremendous value.

It is black with a cozy rubbery feeling which makes it unlikely to slip from your grip. Comes with two USB cables and replaceable tips. You get a microUSB, a mini USB, a 30-pin Apple connector and a PSP. There are two slots that can charge two devices at the same time. One is rated at 2.1A which works great for iPads, Kindle and tablets and another that is rated 1A which is perfect for iPhones and other smartphones. In the middle is an LED flashlight, not very bright but a nice bonus when you need it; you can activate it by pressing the main button twice.

It came in a nice sealed box which makes this power bank a great present.

4Adequate output regulation and battery capacity / Wimpy LED flashlight

I need a portable charger for my Samsung Galaxy S3 and various Android tablets. Previously I have had good results with two other Poweradd products I purchased, so I decided to try this Poweradd LE011 5200mAh Power Bank with LED Flashlight.

There are many cheaply-built power bank units with poor output regulation and inflated battery capacity ratings. That's why I conducted a test to measure the true capacity of this Poweradd unit.

First, I made sure that the internal battery pack was fully discharged and recharged for several cycles. Next, I connected a 5-ohm power resistor as load to the USB port, and measured its output voltage and current over time. Here is what I have observed:

- For the first one hour, the unit generated a very well-regulated 5.02V at 0.96A, or 4.8W of output power
- After 70 minutes, however, the output voltage (hence power) starts to drop linearly with time. It dropped from 5V down to 4.75V over the next 100 minutes
- Right after 172 minutes, the power cut off completely.

Based on the above data, I can estimate the internal battery capacity through energy calculation:
- Average output power = 4.7W
- Runtime = 172 minutes
- Total output energy = 4.7*172/60=13.47Wh
- Assuming conversion efficiency of 80%, input energy required = 18.84Wh
- At 3.7V, the internal battery's capacity = 18.84/3.7 = 4.55Ah

Therefore my measured battery capacity is 4550mAh, or 88% of the advertised capacity. To put this capacity number in perspective: it is enough to recharge the 2100mAh battery in my Samsung Galaxy S3 for 1.5 times (since part of the energy is lost during conversions). By the way, my other two Poweradd products also show slight discrepancy between their measured and rated capacities:
- The Poweradd 2600mAh Ultra Slim Power Bank with Mini USB flashlight has a measured capacity of 2490mAh, or 96% of rated value.
- The Poweradd 5000mAh Dual-Port External Backup Battery Pack has a measured capacity of 4380mAh, or 88% of rated value.

The battery status indicator is very good. It uses 4 LED 'dots' to give a fairly accurate indication on the remaining battery capacity. Based on my observation:
- 4 dots = 77-100% (approximately)
- 3 dots = 57-76%
- 2 dots = 39-56%
- 1 dot = 21-38%
- 1 blinking dot = below 20%

The LED flashlight, on the other hand, is very disappointing. The light is so dim that it is weaker than any of my keychain LED flashlights. In fact, the blue status indicator from the other 5000mAh Poweradd unit is about equally bright.

Overall, I consider this Poweradd unit a good value (4-star). I would give it a 5 if the LED flashlight were a little more powerful.

I tested the PowerBot PB5600 5600mAh Power Bank which is currently available at the same price. The PowerBot unit offers 10% higher capacity and a more usefull LED flashlight. The Poweradd unit still has the advantage of being more compact.

5Lifesaver when you need it, convenience when you want it.

I am Super pleased with this mobile power bank. It has already served and saved my phone from dying many times. The model I received was the POWERADD LE-011 5200 mAh with one USB out. For the size that it is I am shocked at how much it can do.

Out of the box it came fully charged and took my phone (GS3) from 11% to 100 % in only 2 hours. This was with WiFi on but in standbye. For only two hours of wait and only two of the 4 lights down, it granted my phone an additional 10 hours of life.

This product is not hard to use. You plug it in to your device using either the USB to MicroUSB cable provided or one that you provide and charge your device. What happens when the LE-011 is out of juice? No problem, plug it into your computer or using the AC plug provided plug it into your wall outlet. The charging time varies only by 1 hour. Between 5 and 6 hours for full charge.

How about those high demand activities that drain your battery faster than you can find an outlet? No sweat for the LE-011 with 5200 mAh and 1A out of power you will be perfectly fine. I was able to save my phone from 3% of battery and charged it up to 100% in roughly 3 hours and it drained the LE-011 to 1 light left. All of this I did while streaming video, music, using GPS and WiFi. Sounds bad right? I don't think so because like I said before I now have another 8-10 hours on my regular battery.

The bad well if you get sad about only charging one device at a time, well you are probably packing your bag a little too tight. Yes it only has the 1 output but thats all that is necessary for something this small.

This external batter is worth the money. A lifesaver when you need it and a convenience when you want it. Definitely would recommend. And will probably purchase in the future.

Included with the batterypack is a 29" USB to MicroUSB cable and a micro-AC charger (100-240V, 50/60Hz).

The powerbank has a single 1A USB output and is charged via a MicroUSB port with the included USB cable and micro-AC charger. You are also able to charge the powerbank from a computer USB port but it will charge more slowly. You can use the powerbank at the same time it is being charged.

There is a built-in LED flashlight that is turned on and off by a long press of the power button on the powerbank. The light is quite dim but useful nonetheless.

When you press the power button a single time, the LEDs indicate the relative state of charge of the batterypack. When charging the batterypack, the LED's will blink.

The batterypack performed on par with other good performing batterypacks that I've tested. My iPhone battery was charged at a rate of 10% increase in battery charge every 10 minutes. At that rate it would take about 1.5 hours to fully charge a depleted iPhone battery. The battery pack takes about 6-7 hours to fully charge using an AC charger.

I like the size and power capacity of this powerbank. It would have been nice if a couple different tips were included, like an Apple 30-pin connector and a MiniUSB tip. There was also no carry bag included. But in spite of that this is a good performing batterypack.
