The EC Tech 12,000mAh is a large capacity external power bank that will fully charge your smartphone and provides a LED light. This external battery pack is larger than some of the others on the market, but it packs significant storage capacity making it perfect for long international flights or anytime you need extra battery life for a tablet.

Notes-

- 12,000mAh power bank has enough storage capacity to fully charge an iPhone fully four to five times - it will also provide about a 150% charge to an iPad 2 and a full charge to an iPad 4

- Has one 5V 1A output and 2 5V 2A outputs for tablets

- Has an LED light built in - when external battery is fully charged the light will shine for 340 hours

- Come with a variety of variety of charging tips including a 30 pin Apple adapter (but not the newer Apple Lightning Adapter) - a micro USB, a mini USB, and a PSP

- It is shaped as a perfect square about 2.5" on each side

Final Verdict - The EC Tech 12,000mAh is packs enough power to fully charge an iPhone and iPad (and then some) at a very reasonable price. There are smaller external batteries on the market but the 12,000mAh comes at the price of a larger size. The EC Technology is ideal for fully charging tablets on the go.

4Measurements for charging for Nexus 7 Tablet, Nexus Phone, and Galaxy Tablet

I received this power bank from the manufacturer for an honest review be it positive or negative. Top reviewers are often asked to review new battery packs and one of the benefits of being asked to test different power banks is that it gives me an opportunity to compare them to each other using the same charging test, so I can compare them using "apples to apples" comparison. This set of tests allows me to provide unbiased results as the numbers speak for the performance of each unit. Based on these comparison tests this external battery earned 4 star ranking: excellent for the phone, ok for the tablets.

My methodology is to charge each mobile device on each port of the unit for 10 minutes and measuring how much each unit was charge in that 10 minute period. In addition I tested charging two mobile devices at the same time. Each line in the table below represents a separate 10 minute test.

I use Battery App by Elvison to determine how each device recognized the charging source. 'AC' status means the charging is at full charging rate. 'USB' status indicates charging at a lower charging rate. 'Discharging' status means that the charging rate is below the power that the device is consuming so it slows down the discharge rate but does not re-charge.

EC Tech 12000 mAh external battery weighs 8.9 oz. Its size is 3.7" x 3" x 0.875". Photo included with the charger next to my tablet (running one of the tests) for relative size reference.

5Perfect for those LONG PLANE TRIPS!

My family and I fly quite a bit and the main thing that keeps my children entertained on the flight is our iPad. It works wonderfully keeping the kids occupied and quiet... until the battery dies. Then the heat is on! Can we have a Sprite? Can I use your phone? What are you reading? Where are the headphones? Are we there yet? Where are we going? I'm hungry! etc.

With this unit, we were able to keep the kids flinging birds at pigs for twice as long! After we wore down the iPad, the kids took a nap while it charged and then they were back in business.

Now that you know how I used it, let me give you some details.

1. Read the dimensions carefully. It's a bit bigger than I expected. Its roughly the size of two decks of cards and a tad thicker. It's also pretty heavy as well, but none of this mattered for my use. I'd carry a car battery if it meant that I could keep my kids happy on a plane.

2. The LCD readout is great. I have other (smaller) chargers and I never know what's going on with them. It's nice to see what percentage this one is at, and also watch it dump into the iPad. Seeing it count down from 100% is a great visual to see that it's working and how fast it's going. My kids liked seeing it as well because they could estimate how much time was left until "game time!"

All in all, I think this device is a lifesaver. I will definitely have it with me on every plane trip from here on out.
